Despite being relatively new to the Servest family, Itumeleng Mabolabola has gained a great deal of knowledge and developed and sharpened his managerial skills in a short period of time as a candidate intern in our learning and development programme. He shares his experience and how the programme has impacted his life:
“I joined Servest in March 2021 as an intern in the catering division. I’ve gained experience in various departments within the catering division for the past seven months, under the supervision of Adri Trollope, Hope Nare and Last Chitsa. I worked as an administrator and storeman where I was introduced to planning, organising stock, controlling cost and spending. I was also introduced to WPA and MTA networking and data capturing.
“Being a part of the learning and development programme has had a huge impact on my life. After seven months as an intern I was promoted to assistant manager at our Lubeksdal site. This inspired me to do more and advance within Servest Catering; I believe it is unusual to be given such an opportunity while still under supervision as an intern. My responsibilities now include various managerial tasks. I am extremely grateful to the company for providing this opportunity.”
While his role as an assistant manager is demanding and includes cost planning and control, Itumeleng relishes it because it allows him to focus on those tasks. His role is an important one, it requires concentration and attention to detail to ensure that all SHEQ policies are adhered to by colleagues.
A typical day at work consists of daily temperature readings and weekly stocktaking. “I ensure that all fridge and freezer temperatures are taken and recorded on a daily basis. This is followed by a weekly stocktake,” Itumeleng explained. He believes that Servest is a unique and enriching working environment because of its values, people, and supportive nature and positive atmosphere.
“What I enjoy most about working at Servest is that there is room for growth, there is constructive feedback, and I believe that the company should continue with their training programmes so that others can be presented with opportunities to grow like I was.”
In his spare time, Itumeleng enjoys reading books and watching soccer.
We wish him continued success and growth within the organisation and are proud to call him our brand ambassador.
